What are the common faults of automatic steel pipe palletizers?

2026-09-29

I. Gripper Mechanism Faults (Most Frequent)
Unstable gripping; steel pipes slipping or dropping. Causes: Gripper pad wear; insufficient clamping force; air supply pressure fluctuations; oil/grease on pipe surface.
Gripper damaging the outer surface of the steel pipe. Causes: Excessive clamping force; hardened/aged pads; gripper misalignment.
Sticking or sluggish gripper opening/closing. Causes: Cylinder air leakage; clogged air supply filter; rusted cylinder piston rod; kinked air lines.
II. Air Supply and Cylinder Faults
Cylinder air leakage: Loose fittings, aged seals, or scratched piston rods. Symptoms: Weak operation, increased noise.
Intermittent cylinder failure: Moisture or dust in compressed air causing internal rust/jamming; failure to drain the air service unit (FRL) regularly.
III. Loading and Positioning Faults
Steel pipe feeding misalignment or separation failure. Causes: Worn conveyor rollers; dust accumulation on positioning sensors causing false signals; excessive clearance in the pipe transfer mechanism.
Pipe jamming or pile-up. Causes: Desynchronization between upstream conveying and the palletizer; limit sensor failure.
IV. Stacking Pattern Issues
Uneven or skewed stacks. Causes: Misaligned positioning stops; inaccurate gripper center; program parameters not adjusted for pipe diameter.
Stack instability (layers collapsing): Incorrect spacing parameters between layers; offset pipe placement.
V. Electrical and Safety Faults
Sensor false triggering / no signal: Dust from the welded pipe workshop covering photoelectric or proximity switches.
Sudden equipment stoppage: Safety light curtain obstructed; emergency stop button reset issue; loose wiring.
PLC program errors: Incorrect parameter settings for product changeover; communication signal interruption. 6. Mechanical Structure Faults
Loosening of the frame, chains, or fasteners; bolts working loose due to prolonged heavy-load vibration;
Bearing wear, abnormal noise from the conveying mechanism, and operational instability or shaking.
